The new 50 apartments will join the 27 that have already been delivered by the municipality this year. It is a new building intended for affordable rental, with houses of types between T1 and T3, in Calhariz de Benfica, in Lisbon – next to the Higher Schools of Education, Communication and Music.
“The execution of the work involves the use of modular construction, with the installation of prefabricated concrete modules, which will give shape to the new building”, says the Benfica Parish Council, in a statement sent to the newsrooms. The project, budgeted at around six million euros, is fully financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), integrating the Affordable Rent regime and “contributing to responding to the growing need for affordable housing in Lisbon”, reads the same document.
The project is being created on land provided by Lisbon City Council and which was, until now, vacant. Nearby are the new Calhariz de Benfica University Residence and the CP station.
The Benfica Parish Council, the second most populous in the capital, also states that it is “in an advanced stage of construction of another building, with 18 apartments, at the back of Avenida Gomes Pereira”. By 2026, states the municipality, An additional 106 homes will be allocated for affordable rental in the Benfica neighborhoodand it is expected that, of this number, 50 can be delivered in 2025.
The Parish Council also assures that this is “the largest investment ever in housing made by a Parish Council — 69 million euros — with 272 homes applying for the 1st Right (IHRU) program”.
