The municipality of Cascais wants to explore the Cascais line together with Oeiras and Lisbon, revealed this Wednesday the elected president of the Cascais Municipal Chamber, Nuno Piteira Lopes, in a Mobi Summi panel on mobility in the western part of the Lisbon metropolitan area. And just as he innovated several years ago with the offer of free public road transport, “we also want free trains for residents in Cascais”, he assumed.

“The presidents of the three municipalities are completely aligned on this purpose and have already requested a meeting from the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz”, guaranteed Nuno Piteira Lopes.

Assuming that the service that CP currently provides is not best serving the interests of the residents of the so-called Cascais Line, the mayor said that it is a question of negotiating a concession contract with a joint company to be created between these municipalities.

And an example cited by Nuno Piteira Lopes is the treatment of seasons. They need to be taken care of, they are not taken care of enough, and proximity management carried out by municipalities is more effective, he said.
“I don’t know if CP doesn’t have the vocation for this, but the municipalities, being closer, have more capacity to manage”, he said when asked about CP not doing its job well.

Nuno Piteira Lopes also announced that he has information that the new carriages should arrive at the beginning of the first quarter of next year on the line that is almost finishing its requalification works.
