Prices of houses for rent in Portugal increased by 5.7% in October, compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the idealista price index, revealed this Tuesday, November 4th.
The average rental cost was 17 euros per square meter (euros/m²) at the end of October.
This increase is observed in all district capitals and autonomous regions, with significant variations. The biggest increases were recorded in Viana do Castelo (21.9%), Faro (19.6%), Santarém (14.8%) and Viseu (14.4%).
Lisbon continues to be the most expensive city to rent, at 22.8 euros/m², followed by Porto (18.3 euros/m²) and Faro (15.8 euros/m²).
The most economical cities to rent are Viseu (8 euros/m²), Vila Real (7.5 euros/m²) and Castelo Branco (7.5 euros/m²).
With regard to districts, Beja recorded the biggest increase, with 22.1%, followed by Guarda (21.5%) and Castelo Branco (17.5%).
Prices rose in all 20 districts analyzed, with Lisbon leading the ranking of most expensive areas to rent, with 20.9 euros/m².
The regions also followed the increasing trend, with Alentejo recording the highest annual variation (16.1%).
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area remains the region with the highest prices, at 20.2 euros/m². The Center and the Azores have more affordable prices, with 10.3 euros/m² and 10.2 euros/m², respectively.
